Austin was the coolest city. I thoroughly enjoyed my trip and wish it would’ve been longer, despite the fact that i had a horrible head cold. The pressure my head and ear felt on the plane was not a fun experience, but it was worth it. The working the night before and being awake for 32+ hours on Friday to meet my brother there – also worth it. I highly recommend a trip there if you haven’t been. There’s so much to see and do. So much food to eat. Yum. You must go. And that’s an order. ;)

A little over a week ago, a friend and i went exploring. We had a destination in mind but everything else along the way was up in the air. We could stop anywhere we wanted or saw at that moment. I think i mentioned that before when i posted about the beauty of a car we found by taking a back road on the way home. On the way to our destination, we stopped and had lunch at a little mom and pop restaurant named Peggy’s. My friend remembers stopping there as a kid with her dad so we gave it a shot. It was one of those restaurants where you just feel at home. One of those restaurants where you’re so glad you stopped because everything was delicious. And it was. It’s hard (for me anyway) to find good food out here in the midwest (i feel like food here is so bland) and this restaurant is just what i needed. It was good food. A good atmosphere. And just a good time. I’m so glad we stopped.

Recently i got another camera to experiment with, and this is one i had been wanting since it came out. Yes, another camera. And yes, i just had to have it. It’s a La Sardina lomography camera but this one is specific to my roots (ha!). I’m talking about the ‘Virginia is for lovers’ edition. For those of you who don’t know, i’m from Virginia originally and lived there for 27+ years of my life before i just picked up and moved to the midwest.

When i saw this camera, i knew it was perfect. I finally got the chance to order it and didn’t even take it out of the package for a while because it was so pretty. Hehe. Finally, i opened it and loaded it with some film and am currently working on finishing the roll. I can’t wait to get the photos developed and see how they turn out! I’ve really been enjoying film lately and love the anticipation of wondering what the photos will look like. Oh, how we’ve been so spoiled with digital! Anyhow. I also thought i’d share some photos i found online of more fun little plastic cameras that i wouldn’t mind if they somehow *wink wink* made their way into my collection.

You may remember the post from a while back that i posted of my first photos from my newer lomography Russian camera. I was so stoked with how those photos turned out that i took the camera with me to Holland when i went in February. I was excited to see the results but when i was winding the film and thought it was at the end, it turns out it wasn’t and some of the photos got over-exposed. I think because of this, not many photos turned out. I will say that this camera gives me unexpected results every time and has some fun, unexpected double-exposures that keep me happy. Some regular photos turned out from this roll but they weren’t too exciting so i picked out three that gave me cool results and that are my favorite from the roll. They’re not spectacular but they’re still dreamy and interesting, and i’m ok with that.

As i’ve said before, i’m going to Holland on Monday. Half of my family lives there, as i am 50% Dutch. I can’t wait to see them because it’s been 3 years already since i have. In some ways it feels just like yesterday when i was there. In others, it feels like it’s been forever. I am stoked for this trip and nervous. Most of all, i’m glad i get to travel again. I love travelling and have been having a severe case of wanderlust lately. I just need to travel. Do you ever feel like that? I love exploring new places and taking photographs of new sights. February 2012 is here already. Can you believe it? I think i said just a week ago that time flies. Oh how it does indeed. In just 6 days i will be on a plane across the ocean. Hard to believe. I’ve also been at my ‘new’ job for almost 9 months now. In a sense it feels like it’s been longer, but also feels like i still just started it. And i’ve lived in the midwest for over 2 years now. That’s also another one that’s crazy to think about. But as they say, life does go on and time doesn’t stop for anybody.

The other day while dusting off the hand-me-down sewing machine for the first time ever, and using it for the first time ever, the kitty seemed to want to sit at the table and get in the way be close. Naturally i shot some photos of him. Notice how he’s using my cardboard to sit on. He’s a big guy, for sure, but don’t let his largeness fool you. He’s the biggest baby ever. He whines meows a lot and loses a lot of battles when he’s outdoors. We’ve tried keeping him indoors all the time but that seriously doesn’t work. He’ll just tear up the blinds or poop in the house in the most random places. Gross. So, he’s an indoor-outdoor cat and seems to get the best of both worlds. Especially when he brings home a squirrel, or two, or four, to show us that he’s really not a wuss at all (true story, i’ve got a picture to prove it). Want more kitty photos? Last year, after i was researching a local estate sale online, i saw a camera i was interested in that was pictured in one of the photos for the sale. Needless to say, i had a dream about that same camera prior to going to the sale and basically dreamt that i put a bid on the camera at auction and won. I actually dreamt the exact amount i won it for and everything. So, you can imagine that was a good dream. And very strangely, it came true. We went to the estate sale and the camera was still there on the 3rd day, and went up for auction. I bid on it. The exact amount in my dream. And won. It was a vintage Rolleiflex camera and was oh-so beautiful. I was eager to put a roll of film in it and started shooting. It took a while to use the film but i finally finished the roll and finally got them developed. It turns out that the roll sat so long that it messed with the color of the photos, but i think they’re pretty dreamy. Recently, i purchased a Russian Lomo camera off ebay after some extensive research (me sitting on my butt for hours looking at cameras on the internet) and finally got my first roll of film back from it.
